Sell planning
Plan what you sell — the quarter plan, lots, sale windows, the hand-off to Sell and the review of how the plan held, with Sequoia reading the market. A product your organization switches on.
TL;DRAI summary
This chapter explains how to plan which vehicles to sell and when, helping you manage your fleet's sales quarter. You’ll learn how to set sales goals, organize vehicles into sale lots, schedule them into specific sale windows, and prepare them for hand-off to Remarketing.
Sell planning is where a fleet decides which vehicles to sell and when. It is the quarter plan, the lots your vehicles fall into, the sale windows you schedule them into, and the readiness checks that clear a vehicle for the hand-off to Remarketing. It is a product your organization switches on: ask your Cypress manager, or request it from the app, if you do not see Planning in the sidebar.
This manual is self-contained. It starts with the process, then the step-by-step guides, then the reference chapters that say exactly what each screen holds. What Sell planning shares with Buy planning (Sequoia's rail, the Market tab, the quarter bar, the Cypress desk) is in Planning together.
Where Sell planning sits in a vehicle's life
Planning decides which vehicles enter Sell, and when.
The process
A quarter of Sell planning has six moves. Nothing before the hand-off lists, prices, discloses or bills anything.
- Set the quarter plan. Pick a mandate and the quarter's goals (units, cash, fleet shape, renewal pacing). Build the quarter plan.
- Know your lots. Your fleet is cut into lots of the same year, make and model, and into mileage bands. Bench the vehicles you want to work on. Import planning stock brings a fleet in.
- Schedule sale windows. Spread a lot across the next six two-week windows, or let Sequoia propose the spread. Schedule a sale window.
- Clear blockers. A stale payoff statement, a disputed odometer or a missing inspection gates the sale, never the plan. Clear blockers.
- Hand a window to Sell. When a window's hand-off date comes, its vehicles go to the Sell intake as drafts. This is the one move that reaches Remarketing, and even then nothing is listed or priced. Hand a window to Sell.
- Review how the plan held. Each window against what was planned for it, and the quarter against your goals. Review how the plan held.
Approving the plan sets the baseline that every later edit is measured against. See The plan.
How-to guides
Step by step: build the quarter plan, import planning stock, schedule a sale window, hand a window to Sell, clear blockers and review how the plan held.
Worked example
A selling quarter, end to end, with fictional Northwind Fleet.
Practices
What to do and why: goals that hold, the hold-or-sell economics, and keeping windows realistic.

Connect your fleet system
If your fleet system already knows which vehicles you run and what they cost, it can keep the plan in step instead of someone retyping it. Cypress gives it an API and notices for Sell planning.
- Keep the plan in step. Your system can push vehicles in as in service or as candidates, keep their mileage, costs and financing current, read the plan, and move vehicles through it: into a sale window, to the bench, to a track, to parked, a blocker added or resolved, and the hand-off to Sell. It follows the same rules as this page, so the two cannot disagree. A quarter that is over stays closed, and the API says which windows are closed.
- Plan the quarter. It can also set the mandate and the quarter's goals, ask Sequoia for the schedule and apply it, and read the quarter with everything its Plan tab shows.
- Apps and agents, not only keys. An app your organization connected, or an agent it added, can do the same. An agent may prepare the whole quarter, but approving it is always a person's: you, in the app, or an app acting for you. See Apps, agents and MCP.
- Get told, rather than check. Your system can be told when a vehicle is benched, scheduled into a window, reaches its hand-to-Sell date, misses its window, gains or clears a blocker, or is handed to Sell.
- What it needs. Planning switched on for your organization, and an API key that holds Sell planning (read) or Sell planning (read and write). An administrator makes the key under Organization → Integrations, where those scopes are offered only while Planning is on; see API keys and endpoints.
- What stays in the app. Lot targets, Sequoia's decisions and market rail, tracks and groups, cost assumptions, and the Cypress desk.
Your developers read Planning API (Sell planning). The dealer's side has its own: see Connect your purchasing system.
What Sell planning shares with Buy planning
Sequoia's market rail, the Market tab, the Decisions tab and the quarter bar are the same on both sides. A dealer reads your plan only as an anonymous range, and only when at least two sellers plan the same kind of vehicle; you see dealers' plans only as a count, and only when at least two dealers want the same thing. See Planning together and, for the places the plan shows up in Remarketing, Planning inside remarketing.
This area helps you build and manage your vehicle selling plan for a quarter. You can set goals, schedule vehicles for sale, and track progress against your targets.
- See an example selling quarter end-to-end
- Set your organization's sell mandate and goals
- Address issues preventing a vehicle from being sold
- Release scheduled vehicles to your Sell intake
- Add new vehicles to your planning stock
- Create and manage sale windows for vehicles
