Ask Cedar well

How to phrase a request so Cedar reads the right screen, proposes the right change, and you can approve it with confidence.

TL;DRAI summary

This chapter explains how to use Cedar, an AI assistant, to quickly find information or make changes. You can ask specific questions and Cedar will show you a proposed action to confirm or decline before anything happens.

Dive deeper:

For: Everyone

Before you start

  • No setup — Cedar is available everywhere: ⌘J opens the search bar to ask a question, ⌘K drops into full Copilot mode.
  • Cedar reads with your own permissions — it never sees or does more than your seat already can.

Steps

Press ⌘J (or click the search bar in the header) to open Cedar. The box reads "Ask Cedar, or tell it to do something…"

The Cedar search bar open, ready for a question

Ask a specific question — name the screen, the vehicle, or the timeframe rather than asking broadly. "Which of my listed vans have no offers after 14 days?" gets rows back instantly; a vague "how's business" makes Cedar guess what you mean.

For anything that changes data — a price, a status, an offer decision — Cedar shows a proposal card with the exact change before anything happens. Read it, then confirm or decline.

With a vehicle panel already open, you don't need to name the vehicle — Cedar binds to that one, so "value this one" or "draft a counter here" can't hit the wrong car.

What happens next

A confirmed action executes immediately and is audited as automation with you named as the confirming human — the Activity tab shows it the same way a manual change would. A decline costs nothing and nothing changes.

If something goes wrong

  • "This proposal expired. Please ask Cedar again." — proposal cards don't stay open forever; ask again if you waited too long to confirm.
  • "Action cancelled. Nothing was changed." — you declined; nothing was written.
  • If AI services are degraded, Cedar says so and falls back to simpler reads rather than guessing silently.
  • Cedar proposing something your role can't do goes nowhere — the permission is yours, not the agent's.
