Notifications and quiet hours
Everything that needs you lands in Grove's Inbox as it happens. The lock screen stays calm unless you choose more: direct messages, one brief each morning, at most two interruptions a day, never between 7 PM and 7 AM.
TL;DRAI summary
This chapter explains how Cypress notifies you about important events. You'll see every alert in your in-app Inbox, but you choose what appears on your phone's lock screen and how often, so you only get urgent alerts when you need them.
For: Everyone in Grove
Grove tells you about everything that needs you inside the app, as it happens. What reaches your phone's lock screen is calmer, and you choose how much.
In the app: your Inbox
The Inbox button at the top of Today, Huddle, Goals and Tasks (and Inbox in the side rail on a computer) lists everything that needed you, newest first, with the unread count:
| It lands in your Inbox when | For |
|---|---|
| A buyer makes an offer on one of your cars, or comes back after your counter | Fleet managers and admins |
| A seller counters, accepts or declines your offer | Buyers |
| A car matches one of your buy plans, or a seller shares cars with you by direct link | Buyers |
| A sale or a purchase starts its closing, or a step on your side is due or late | Fleet managers and admins |
| Cedar needs you: a task it handed you, cold listings with the fix to confirm, a reopen to decide | Everyone; reopens go to the Cypress Manager |
| A teammate hands you a task, or mentions you | Everyone |
| Someone writes to you in a direct message | Everyone |
While Grove is open, a new one also slides in at the top of the screen. Tap it, or the row in the list, to open it. One from another of your organizations slides in too, with that organization's name on top: tapping it switches there and opens it. Missed it? The Inbox keeps it under Other organizations, on top, until you open it; Huddle lists the direct messages and mentions waiting there the same way. A lock-screen notification from another organization opens a page that says where it is, with one button to switch there. Opening the offer, the thread or the deal lane any other way marks it read too, and Mark all read clears the list, other organizations included. The number on the Inbox and on Grove's home-screen icon is your unread count across all of them, where your phone allows it.
On the lock screen
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Direct messages | Each one within seconds, unless you turn Direct messages off in Profile. If you are already reading that conversation in Grove, on any device, your phone stays still. Not counted in the two a day. |
| One brief a day | At your brief time, one notification with what got done, at most three decisions and what is next. Set the time in Profile. |
| At most two interruptions a day | Counted in your own time zone. |
| Only what cannot wait | An interruption is only for a decision whose deadline falls before your next brief. |
| Never in quiet hours | 7 PM to 7 AM in your time zone. What comes up then waits for the brief. |
| Never twice | The same thing never interrupts you twice. |
Choose more
In Profile, under On the lock screen, turn on the kinds you want each time, at once: Offers and counters, Cars for your buy plans, Cedar needs you, Closings, Your team. Direct messages is already on; turn it off there if you'd rather read them in the app. A kind you turn on is not counted in the two a day, and still never comes from 7 PM to 7 AM (a step that is already late is the one exception). Every kind is in your Inbox either way.
Your settings
- Profile sets your brief time and time zone, turns notifications on for this device (a phone and a computer each ask once), and holds On the lock screen.
- Teach Cedar holds the Send a brief every morning rule (Watches by default). Set to Off, there is no morning notification; Today still has the brief when you open Grove.
- Pause all stops Cedar acting. Briefs, reminders and notifications still come.
On iPhone
On iPhone, notifications and the icon's number need Grove on the Home Screen: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open Grove from there. See Install Grove.
